Power & Start-Up Faults
A simple guide for a bike that will not turn on or will not move.
Is the display off, or is the bike not moving?
These are different problems. Start with the section that matches your bike.
The display does not turn on
- Follow your model's normal start-up steps. Check the key, bike power switch and battery switch, if fitted.
- Turn off the bike and unplug the charger from the wall. Check that the battery is properly seated and locked in place.
- If the battery needs charging, let it cool after riding and use the original charger.
- Look for visible damage or an obviously loose plug. Do not open the battery, controller or fuse compartment.
- If the display stays off, contact support with your model and a short video of what happens when you turn it on.
The display is on, but the bike will not move
- On models with a non-driving gear 0, follow the model instructions to select a riding mode. On the D02 shown in the assembly guide, press + to select gear 1. This does not explain a completely blank display.
- Check the normal position of the stop switch and side stand, if fitted. Never bypass a safety switch.
- With the bike off, check that both brake levers and the throttle return freely. Do not ride if a control sticks.
- Photograph any error code and follow its help page. If the problem remains, contact support.
Keep the bike stationary while checking. Do not hold the throttle open while turning on the bike or changing modes.
Power comes and goes
If the bike starts and then stops, or power cuts out while riding, stop and turn it off. Check the battery level and that the battery is seated correctly. Look for visible damage with power off. Let a hot bike cool. If the problem returns, contact support and tell us when it happens.
Do not move cables with power on, test battery terminals with a meter, replace fuses or change electrical protection settings yourself. Support or a qualified repairer can carry out further checks.
Overload protection
CEMOTO bikes protect against overload. If the bike is loaded beyond its rated maximum, electrical components can be damaged — plastic parts may deform from high temperature, or the fuse socket may be damaged by heat. Overload damage is not covered by warranty.
| Model | Maximum load |
|---|---|
| D02 Classic | 287 lb |
| D03 Pro | ~265 lb |
| D02 Track | 265 lb (120 kg) |
| D03 Beast | 287 lb |
If the bike cuts out repeatedly under load, confirm the total weight (rider + gear + anything carried) is within the limit.
Safety: cut the power if there is an electrical fault
The owner manual is explicit: cut off the power if there is a problem with the electrical parts. Do not continue riding a bike with a suspected electrical fault. Do not open sealed electrical components — they are not user-serviceable, and opening them voids the warranty on those parts.
