What type of terrain can a commuter bike ride on? Commuter eBike tires are designed to be versatile and can be ridden on both smooth and rough surfaces, including roads, gravel, dirty trails, rocky areas and even wetlands. For more challenging terrain and trails, an electric mountain bike is better suited.
Is the D-series for off-road use only? Yes. The D-series is intended for off-road use on suitable private property and tracks. It is not marketed as a street-legal commuter.
Forbidden roads and surfaces (D-series) Reproduced from the owner manual:
- Do not drive on the motorway
- Do not drive on roads with slopes exceeding 30°, and do not venture through steep slopes, uneven roads or other unfamiliar terrain
- Do not ride indoors or on potentially damaged surfaces such as carpets or floors
- Do not ride on water, mud, ice, bumpy, uneven, slippery or rough surfaces
- Never submerge the motorcycle in water — electrical and drive components may be damaged
Where should I practice first? Outdoor practice is prohibited until you are fully familiar with the operation methods of the motorcycle. Practice in an accessible area of at least 10 m × 10 m:
- Practice riding forward, turning and stopping
- Stay relaxed while practicing
- For the first time, it is recommended to practice under the guidance of an experienced person or instructor
- Practice navigating tight areas, turning and stopping
- Riding on ordinary roads is not allowed until you can precisely control the motorcycle through tight areas and simulate various terrain
After any upgrade, practice again in the same area as the obstacle zone.
Safety
What safety equipment do I need? Wearing appropriate protective equipment is required:
- Approved hard helmet — mandatory for all riders
- Gloves, elbow pads and knee pads
- Protective trousers
- Lace-up shoes with rubber soles
Do not ride without shoes or in open-toed shoes. Do not wear high heels.
Goggles are recommended to avoid eye contact with contaminants, dirt and insects. Wear dark goggles in strong light and goggles with higher transparency in low light.
The correct helmet should:
- Be comfortable for the rider
- Be of light weight
- Have good ventilation for the head
- Fit snugly
- Cover the forehead
What are the absolute safety rules?
- NEVER carry a passenger on the electric bike
- NEVER modify the electric bike with unapproved accessories
- NEVER ride through deep water
- NEVER perform wheelies, jumps or trick stunts on eBikes
- AVOID riding in the rain for long periods
- AVOID water contact to the motor and electrical lines
- ALWAYS keep both hands on the handlebars
- ALWAYS apply brakes lightly when riding on rocks or loose surfaces
- ALWAYS use caution when going through puddles
- ALWAYS inspect the electric bike before each ride
Do not touch the motor or the brakes after use — these parts get very hot and can burn skin.
Who should not ride? Young children, pregnant women, and any persons with vision, balance or other problems that would prevent them from riding a bicycle should not use the eBike.
Can I carry a passenger? No. The eBikes are not designed for two riders. Ensure only one person at a time is riding.
Can I ride after drinking? No. Do not operate the electric bike after consuming any amount of alcohol or taking drugs.
Are there weather restrictions?
- Avoid riding in the rain for long periods — avoid water contact with the motor and electrical lines
- In bad weather such as rain or snow, the braking distance increases. At 20 km/h, the wet braking distance should not exceed 15 m
- Do not ride on ice or slippery surfaces
- Do not ride through deep water
Some D-series models carry an IPX6 water-resistance rating. IPX6 protects against high-pressure water jets but not immersion. Never submerge the bike.
What should I know about hot components? Never touch the motor or brakes on your motorcycle after use, as these parts can get very hot and damage human skin.
Teen riders
Is an electric dirt bike suitable for my teenager? CEMOTO makes models specifically marketed for teens, and the D-series is for teens and adults who fit the bike. Suitability depends on:
- Maturity — will the rider respect the speed and the machine?
- Strength — can the rider manage the weight and hold the bike up?
- Training and experience — has the rider practiced in a controlled area?
- Fit — does the rider's height suit the model's seat height and rider-height range?
Adult supervision and appropriate protective gear are recommended for teen riders.
Can I restrict the speed? Yes, in two ways:
- Stay in the lowest power gear — 1st gear (ECO mode). The starting gear should always be 1st gear.
- Lower the speed limit parameter (P08) on the display to the desired maximum.
You can also reduce the controller current limit (P14) and soften the throttle response with P11 and P12. See Rider Fit & Sizing and Display & Settings.
Is the D02 Classic suitable for teen riders? Yes — it is marketed for teens and adults who fit the bike, with a 28.74-inch seat and a rider-height range of 4'11"–5'10".
Where can a teen legally ride? Laws vary significantly by jurisdiction. Electric dirt bikes are generally treated differently from pedal-assist eBikes, and age restrictions often apply. Confirm local laws before riding. See Riding Laws & Compliance.
Riding technique
What should I check before riding on a new trail?
- Everything in the Pre-Ride Inspection
- Battery charge sufficient for the route — plan to return with reserve
- Tire pressure set appropriately for the surface
- Emergency kit and basic tools if riding far from help
How do I ride on loose surfaces? Always apply brakes lightly when riding on rocks or loose surfaces. Hard braking on loose ground causes wheel lock and loss of control.
How do I maximize range?
- Ride at medium speed — the owner manual explicitly recommends this
- Avoid frequent braking, starting or heavy loading
- Avoid frequent uphill riding and riding against the wind where possible
- Maintain correct tire pressure
- Use the lowest power mode that suits the terrain
What should I do when approaching intersections? When approaching or crossing intersections, motor vehicle lanes, turning or passing gates, slow down and allow pedestrians, bicycles and motor vehicles to go ahead.
Accessories
Can I use accessories like racks, fenders or child seats with your bikes? Many CEMOTO models come pre-equipped with mounting points for standard accessories such as rear racks, fenders (mudguards) and water bottle cages. Check the specific product description or photos for details on included mounts.
Most bikes are compatible with common third-party accessories, and CEMOTO offers a selection of compatible accessories.
If you have specific accessory questions, contact support before purchasing.
Warning: NEVER modify the electric bike with unapproved accessories. Unapproved accessories may compromise safety, void the warranty, and — in the case of child seats on a bike not rated for a passenger — create a serious safety risk.
What genuine accessories does CEMOTO offer? A wide range including lights, racks, throttles, pedals, brake systems, chains, tires, inner tubes, battery chargers, lock sets, handlebars and more. See Spare Parts & Compatibility.
