The CEMOTO EB40 is the step-thru city commuter in the CEMOTO eBike range. It pairs a 6061 aluminum alloy frame with a 750W BLDC hub motor and a 48V 15Ah lithium-ion battery, giving a claimed range of 40+ miles.

CEMOTO markets it as Class 2 street legal with a top speed of 20 mph, which places it in the most permissive US category for eBike use on public roads and paths. It ships with a complete commuter kit — rear rack and fenders included — rather than as an add-on purchase.

The step-thru geometry (low-step frame for easy mounting) makes it straightforward to get on and off in traffic and in everyday clothing.

The two figures disagree on capacity. Range is stated as 40+ miles in both places. Confirm the actual pack capacity for your unit with CEMOTO before ordering a replacement battery — the charge is the same either way (54.6V 2A), but the pack itself differs. The EB40 is configured for daily urban use rather than trail riding:

  • Step-thru frame — mount and dismount without swinging a leg over a top tube, useful in traffic and in normal clothing
  • Rear rack included — carry a bag, panniers or a lock without an aftermarket purchase
  • Fenders included — protection from road spray on wet commutes
  • 26 × 1.95 KENDA tires — a fast-rolling, lower-resistance profile than fat tires, which suits paved surfaces and helps range
  • Class 2 speed limit — compliance with the most widely accepted eBike category

Range and performance notes

Published range figures are manufacturer-stated maximums under controlled test conditions. CEMOTO's range tests typically assume a 70 kg rider, 25 °C ambient temperature and 20 km/h constant speed. Real-world results vary with rider weight, terrain, temperature, tire pressure, battery condition and riding style.
